Those of you that know me well, know I'm a little obsessed with documentaries, WWII, my iPod, yarn, books, and naps. A few years ago I watched a documentary called Paper Clips. The documentary explains how a rural mostly white school in Tennessee teaches their students about diversity and acceptance. I highly recommend the film if you can find it. Anyways, the school collects paper clips to symbolize each person murdered in death camps during WWII. They picked paper clips because a Norwegian town began wearing paper clips during the war so the Jews, homosexual, and other targeted people would know the person wearing the clip sympathized with their plight.
During the Brexit many began wearing safety pins so minorities and immigrants knew who supported them and were 'safe' to approach. So, that bring us to 2016 in the USA. A new movement has started, the Safety Pin movement. Wear a safety pin to so the minorities and immigrants you encounter know you are a 'safe' person. Wear a safety pin so they know you stand them!
